Is your boat a cold mould construction? Do you work with cold mould boats? Tell us about it!

Do you own a cold mould boat? We'd love to hear about it. Did you build her or buy her? How long have you had her? What are the advantages and disadvantages involved?
Do you work with cold mould boats? Tell us all about what you do. Are there any hints and tips you can share with us? Tell us how you got started in the cold mould field and if you have any pictures to show our readers, so much the better!

We are, frankly, shocked at how little we know about the construction of cold moulded boats but The Skipper does remember being invited aboard a large cold moulded schooner in Andraitch in the `80s.

At 75ft she was a little over 16 tons. In her guest log there were photographs of a couple water skiing astern of her! The owner showed him a plug taken from the hull and The Skipper was astounded at how thin it was. He was assured that half an hour with a two kilo hammer wouldn't break through this skin. The owner's preoccupation with lightness had inspired him to fit a 40 HP Yanmar 4-cylinder diesel with an oversize folding propeller.

The schooner left the following day in a flat calm and The Skipper reckoned she was cracking 8 knots and no smoke.
Well now, we can't stand empty pages so please e-mail soon with some of your knowledge and stories. We really do need educating!
