As we discover new books that deserve a place in
the Library,
they will get one.
As you reveal to us your favourite books, so too will
they be given a place. It won't take you long to jot down a list of the
ten books you'd miss most if you woke up in a bookless place! Imagine reading had just been banned and you had to choose ten books to
hide away from the book police...(no, we don't think this is on the
verge of happening, it was supposed to amuse you...never mind...)
Don't
worry about how similar your tastes may, or may not be to anybody
else's, that's the point of sharing our favourites, in the hopes that
we'll hear of other books we might enjoy instead of limiting ourselves
to authors we know!
Don't feel you have to limit
yourself to marine topics, most sea-faring people have a wide range of
interests other than sailing! Send us details of the books you treasure, the books you would love
to have, (if only you knew where to find them,) the books you would
recommend to others, and why.
We put your reviews on the A Good
Read page in each issue and give the the book details to The
Librarian ( the bookshelves on this page are also links to The
Librarian) to put on the Marine Bookshelves
or the General Bookshelves
- just click on the shelves you see
on this page or the underlined name of the page at the top or bottom of
the page or wherever you see it.
What would be really brilliant would be a Virtual Library, like one of
those video games only when you click on a book in the shelf a hand
takes it down and opens it on the table, and in it are reader's
descriptions of the book, ISBN details, whatever...anybody into creating
one of those? Don't look at me!
Someone must have a whiz-kid friend,
son or daughter who'd enjoy creating such a thing?! This might be
an opportunity to display virtual reality talents to someone wealthier than
us that is looking for such skills...
If you are a real-life librarian, you may like to send us advice on how best to
make this library a useful resource for those wanting to know which
books are worth looking for. We'll welcome all input from everyone.
In the meantime, we will start sharing details and sources of our
favourite books, as a way of getting the Library going. The
Librarian will direct you to all the books we have reviewed so far.
